Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that his country has sent 500 tons of wheat flour to Syria as part of the humanitarian "Grain from Ukraine" initiative, in collaboration with the World Food Programme.
In a post on the social media platform X, written in Arabic, Zelensky confirmed that the shipment is already en route to Syria. He stated, " As promised, we are supporting the Syrian people in their time of need.”
The flour is set to be distributed to 33,250 families, or about 167,000 individuals, over the coming weeks. Each package weighs 15 kilograms and is expected to feed a family of five for one month.
Zelensky added, "We wish Syria and its people safety, stability, and recovery. We know the true value of these things.”
