The UK government has pledged an additional £20 million in financial support for Sudanese refugees who have fled the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy made this announcement during a visit to a refugee camp in Chad.

Lammy, who spent three days in the region, visited a camp in the border town of Adré, where he met with officials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

His visit was aimed at assessing how humanitarian agencies are responding to the growing crisis.

Thousands of refugees have crossed into Chad and neighboring countries in a desperate bid to escape the violence in Sudan.

This new funding brings the total UK aid contribution to the Sudanese and Chadian humanitarian efforts to £246.5 million.

The UK government had previously announced £226.5 million in emergency humanitarian aid to provide essential food assistance and clean drinking water for nearly 800,000 displaced individuals in Sudan.

The crisis has caused a mass exodus, with around 3.6 million refugees fleeing to countries like Egypt, Chad, and South Sudan, escaping the devastating violence.
