Turkish Ambassador to Egypt, Salih Mutlu Şen, attended a ceremony at the Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery in Cairo to commemorate Martyrs’ Day (March 18) and the 110th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory.

The event began with a moment of silence for the martyrs, followed by the national anthem. Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Şen described the Çanakkale Victory as a sacred milestone in world history, stating that it shifted the balance of power and ignited the Turkish national struggle under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

He called the battle a heroic epic, emphasizing that the Çanakkale Wars demonstrated the determination to defend the homeland and Islamic values, despite great sacrifices. He also noted that the Egyptian people and the wider Islamic world stood in solidarity with the Turkish nation during this historic war.

Turkish Military Attaché in Cairo, Brigadier General Ahmet Tosun, highlighted that the cemetery houses the remains of 4,500 Turkish soldiers.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Turkish Embassy, officials from the Yunus Emre Institute, Turkish business figures, and students from Al-Azhar University.
