Turkish Ambassador Salih Mutlu Şen met with Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, during a meeting of Asian ambassadors in Cairo on October 14, 2024. The discussion highlighted the growing economic partnership between Turkey and Egypt, focusing on investment, trade, and future cooperation.

During the meeting, Minister El-Khatib informed Ambassador Şen of his upcoming visit to Istanbul in November, where he will attend the ministerial meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC). El-Khatib also expressed interest in exploring potential investment and economic opportunities in Istanbul during his visit.

In a social media post after the meeting, Ambassador Şen praised Minister El-Khatib's proactive and open-minded approach to economic reform. He noted Egypt’s focus on modernizing customs procedures, enhancing investment incentives, and improving the regulatory environment for work permits, residency, exports, and investments. These measures, Şen emphasized, are key to driving Egypt’s economic transformation.

Şen also highlighted the interest of Turkish companies in tapping into the opportunities Egypt offers. He pointed out Egypt's large, highly skilled labor force, its advantageous free trade agreements, strategic location, and modern infrastructure under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. According to Şen, these factors have bolstered the competitiveness of Turkish firms globally, while facilitating access to markets in the Arab world and Africa.

Turkey’s broader economic vision for the region, Şen explained, is rooted in a shared path of growth with its "sister and strategic partner" Egypt. He stressed the importance of mutual benefit and cooperation between the two nations, reaffirming Turkey’s support for Egypt's development and prosperity under President El-Sisi’s leadership.

Şen concluded by welcoming the continued investments and strengthening trade relations of Turkish companies in Egypt, underscoring the vital role these economic ties play in fostering growth and expanding opportunities for both countries.
