The Tunisian National Guard announced today, Friday, that it has successfully thwarted 23 attempts to cross the maritime borders and rescued 942 illegal migrants in the Sfax region.
In a statement, the National Guard clarified that among the rescued illegal migrants, two were Tunisian, and the rest were of various African nationalities. Additionally, two bodies were recovered during the operations.
In a related development, units of the National Guard in Sfax managed to arrest 17 individuals accused of organizing these illegal migration attempts. Furthermore, the authorities seized 5 boats, 24 boat engines, and a quantity of petroleum products. Legal actions have been taken accordingly.
