This morning, outgoing US President Donald Trump announced that US Attorney-General William Barr, one of his loyal allies, will leave post before Christmas.

Trump added that Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen will serve as acting attorney general.

President Trump tweeted Barr's resignation letter saying: "Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job!"

Barr hailed Trump's achievements in the office before ending the letter by saying he will depart from his position on 23 December.

It is worth mentioning that, the Electoral College decisively confirmed Joe Biden on Monday as the nation’s next president, ratifying his November victory in an authoritative state-by-state repudiation of President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede he had lost.

The presidential electors gave Biden a solid majority of 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232, the same margin that Trump bragged was a landslide when he won the White House four years ago.

Electors met to cast paper ballots, with masks, social distancing, and other pandemic precautions, while the results will be sent to Washington and tallied in a Jan. 6 joint session of Congress over which Vice President Mike Pence will preside.
