Commercial activity has resumed at the Jordan-Syria border after a two-week closure due to security concerns in the region.

The reopening of the Jaber-Nassib border crossing marks a significant step in revitalizing trade between the two nations.

Jordanian Minister of Industry and Trade, Yarub Qudah, reported on Thursday that about 500 trucks crossed from Jordan into Syria over the past three days, while around 150 trucks entered Jordan from Syria during the same period, heading to various international destinations.

Qudah highlighted that Jordan has permitted Syrian exports to pass through its territory to global markets using a transit system.

He added that over 210 trucks were expected to cross from Jordan into Syria on Thursday, with the daily numbers steadily increasing.

The minister also noted that a substantial number of trucks have traveled through Syria to Lebanon, emphasizing Jordan’s commitment to meeting the needs of its Lebanese neighbors.

He confirmed the establishment of a task force to streamline operations at the Jaber border crossing, ensuring smooth and efficient processing of trucks and goods.

Jordan initially closed the Jaber border crossing on December 6, citing security concerns in Syria. The crossing had previously been shut down multiple times since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011.
