Oscar award winner Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson went viral on social media after being spotted dining at a popular Egyptian restaurant in Cairo.
During his visit to Egypt, Hanks shoot scenes of his new movie and used cameras underwater to film the waters off Egypt's Red Sea coast.
In a statement Karim Abdel Aziz, director of the National Cinema Center, said that the visit aims to promote tourism in Egypt.
"We want to make it clear that it is easy to photograph Western projects in Egypt, and we would like to welcome the filming of international projects in front of the Nile, the pyramids, and the desert," he added.
This is not the veteran star's first visit to Egypt. In 2014, Hanks visited the country for the first time to film the movie "A Hologram for the King", which was released in 2016.
The movie was directed by Tom Tykwer and based on Dave Eggers' novel of the same name.
It follows a doctor (Sarita Choudhury) and a wise-cracking taxi driver (Alexander Black) helping an American businessman (Hanks) who is trying to make up for his losses by traveling to Saudi Arabia and selling his company's products to King Abdullah.
