Three women sustained minor injuries in a stabbing incident that occurred Friday evening on the Paris Metro, according to French police sources.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been arrested. Police said a man armed with a knife attacked several women on Line 3 of the Paris Metro.

According to multiple security sources, the suspect drew a knife and stabbed three women at different stations along the line before fleeing the scene. Police officers later managed to track him down and take him into custody.

Emergency medical teams in Paris responded quickly, providing first aid to the injured women, whose wounds were described as minor. None of the victims were reported to be in life-threatening condition.

The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office said that surveillance camera footage enabled regional transport security services to identify the suspect, a man born in 2000 who is already known to police for various offenses, including property damage.

Using mobile phone geolocation technology, officers were able to trace the suspect to his residence in the Paris suburbs. He was arrested at his home in the Val-d’Oise department.

A police source stated that the possibility of a terrorist motive has been ruled out. Preliminary assessments suggest the attack was carried out by an individual who is mentally unstable or suffering from psychological disorders.

An investigation has been opened on charges of attempted murder. Approximately two hours after the incident, traffic on Line 3 of the Paris Metro returned to normal operations.

The incident once again raises concerns over public safety in mass transit systems, even as authorities stressed the rapid response and containment of the situation.
