On the occasion of the 126th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Cairo, which dates back to the first of April 1897, the museum displays at its entrance a set of artifacts that represent the tools that were used during laying the foundation stone of the museum to be the piece of the month of April.

The exhibited pieces include the foundation stone shovel, a hammer, and the commemorative medallion inscribed with the name of Khedive Abbas Helmy II, which was specially designed and manufactured to commemorate the foundation stone laying event, in addition to the feather and ink pen that were signed to commemorate this important event.

The Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and houses the largest collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. The museum displays a large collection that extends from the pre-dynastic period to the Greek and Roman eras.

The architect for the building was chosen through an international competition in 1895, which was the first of its kind and was won by French architect Marcel Dorgnon.

Khedive Abbas Helmy II inaugurated the museum in 1902, and it has become a historical landmark in downtown Cairo.

The museum was home to some of the finest pieces of ancient Egyptian antiquities.

Among the museum's unparalleled collections are the funerary collection of Yuya and Tuya, Psusennes I and the treasures of Tanis, and the Narmer stele commemorating the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the authority of a single king are among the museum's priceless artifacts. The museum also includes wonderful statues of the great kings, Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the builders of the pyramids on the Giza plateau. In addition to a large collection of papyri, coffins, and ornaments that complete the distinguished collection of this museum.
