The Texas National Guard announced a call for volunteers to patrol the border with Mexico in high-risk areas to prevent criminal gangs from smuggling immigrants and drugs into the state.

It said in a statement: “As part of Operation Lone Star, the Texas National Guard and the Department of Public Safety are collaborating to deploy Border Patrol agents to high-risk areas to disrupt the ability of criminal organizations to smuggle immigrants and drugs into Texas.”

As part of recruiting volunteers, the mission organizers opened new positions, and also announced "offering a number of benefits to volunteers and being prepared to cover the costs of their accommodation and food."

The Texas authorities entered into a conflict with the federal authorities over border security measures. State authorities also insist that the border is not properly secured, which has led to the infiltration of record numbers of illegal immigrants.

The US administration describes the measures taken by local authorities as "unconstitutional and unsafe."

Up to 25 Republicans have accused President Joe Biden of not wanting to combat illegal immigration, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott made clear that he was prepared for a possible conflict with the federal government.

Former US President Donald Trump said yesterday that the proposals of the current administration led by Joe Biden to secure the borders do not help stop the flow of migrants, while he is sending billions of dollars to Kiev to no avail. Considering the situation on the American border as a weapon of mass destruction that threatens the country's security.
