Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Shanghai Museum in China, to hold a temporary archaeological exhibition at the museum from July 19, 2024 to August 17, 2025.
The protocol was signed by Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Dr. Chu Xiaobo, Director of the Shanghai Museum.
During the signing ceremony, Mr. Ahmed Issa congratulated the Chinese side on this signing, expressing his happiness to host China for this exhibition, especially in light of the close and long-standing relations between the Egyptian and Chinese sides and the cultural ties between the two countries, as Egypt and China are among the oldest civilizations in the world.
He expressed his hope that major Chinese tourism companies will witness the opening of the exhibition and promote the Egyptian tourism product in China.
For his part, Dr. Mustafa Waziri said that the exhibition, which is entitled "The Top of the Pyramid: Ancient Egyptian Civilization", includes 787 artifacts dating back to different periods of the ancient Egyptian civilization, which were selected from a number of Egyptian museums, including the Manial Palace, Ismailia, Suez, and Luxor, in addition to a number of artifacts from the Saqqara Antiquities warehouses from the work of the Egyptian archaeological mission at the Supreme Council of Antiquities and working in the Bubasteion area.
Dr. Chu Xiaobo, Director of the Shanghai Museum, was keen to thank the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, for this cooperation, expressing his confidence that the exhibition will be a great success and contribute to increasing the tourist traffic coming to Egypt from China, inviting the Minister to visit China and inaugurate the exhibition.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mr. Mohamed El-Saeidi, Director of the Scientific Office of the Secretary-General, and Mr. Khalifa Mohamed, Assistant Secretary-General for External Exhibitions, and Mr. Akmal Omran, Rapporteur of the External Exhibitions Committee at the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, as well as a number of representatives of the Shanghai Museum and the Chinese Embassy in Cairo.
