Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority revealed on Tuesday that the authority had dealt quickly with a sudden failure in the engine of one of the oil tankers "Rumford" crossing the canal with a tonnage of 62 thousand tons.
Rabie said that this malfunction was dealt with professionally using the authority's tugboats, as the ship resumed its passage through the canal after the problem was fixed, stressing that the traffic was not affected by this sudden failure of the ship’s engine and that the crossing of all ships from both directions was resumed.
Another tanker Minnerva Nike was also refloated and already under way in Great Bitter Lake, after the two Aframax tankers in ballast ran aground while transiting Suez Canal.
He indicated that the authority possesses the necessary rescue expertise, the navigational and technical insurance capabilities necessary to deal with faults, in addition to the availability of the necessary infrastructure to deal with emergency situations, especially after the opening of the new Suez Canal project and the development projects on the new shipping course.
