A new study showed the ability of vaccines against the recently emerged Delta variant, Daily Mail reported on Wednesday.
It highlighted that the Pfizer vaccine is only effective by 42% against the variant, on the other hand, the Moderna vaccine is effective by 76% against the Indian variant.
Published on medRxiv.org, the study was conducted by Mayo Clinic researchers in Rochester, Manissotta, and it included 25,000 participants.
Moreover, it aimed to detect the impact of the vaccines against the previously mentioned strain as it caused the latest spike of COVID-19 infections in the US.
In the same context, the fearable Delta variant drove various countries to vaccinate its residents with one more shot for securing them against any future mutations of the virus.
It is worthy to mention that Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko announced yesterday that the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine dose is effective by 83% against the Indian strain.
The minister also asserted that the vaccine secures people from 95% of severe illness that caused by the virus.
Delta variant is still raising the concern of the whole world as it causes an unstoppable surge in the number of infections.
Early this month, a new study showed that the recent globally-emerged Coronavirus variant Delta is more transmissible than the Alpha variant with more than 200%.
In addition, the study highlighted that this strain could leave more dangerous effects and symptoms for patients.
Therefore, Chinese Center for Control Disease and Prevention experts told local media reporters that vaccines could be less effective against the previously mentioned strain, however, this does not deny the importance and protection of the vaccines against Delta strain.
They added that there is no 100% effective vaccine against any virus, asserting that currently available vaccines are capable of affecting various mutated versions of the virus.
The study also showed that vaccines succeeded in reducing the duration of treatment and declining the number of dangerous COVID-19 linked cases, and deaths.
It is worthy to mention that the Delta variant is no leading China to a major and nationwide COVID-19 restriction, alongside side expected lockdown since the Wuhan crisis.
