Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary-General of NATO sent an invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to participate in the NATO summit scheduled for the end of this month in Madrid.
“He (Zelenskyy) is, of course, welcome to come in person if that is possible for him. He will also address by videoconference, by VTC,” Stoltenberg said.
NATO’s “leaders are extremely committed to supporting Ukraine, and to demonstrate that solidarity not only in words but also in deeds,” he added.
Stoltenberg had also announced that he expects NATO leaders to decide at the Madrid meeting on further support for Ukraine to help its military transition from Soviet-era equipment to modern weapons.
The NATO summit will be held in Madrid on June 28-30. It will address current challenges to European and Euro-Atlantic security, primarily the consequences of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, as well as ways to further transform the military alliance.
Allied leaders will adopt a new NATO Strategic Concept.
