The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation OIC) participated in the International Symposium on the Status of Arabic Language Teaching in the World, organized by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in partnership with the King Salman International Academy for the Arabic Language, in Rabat, the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The symposium was divided into eight scientific panels with the participation of international experts and researchers who addressed in their interventions the challenges of teaching Arabic as a second language in non-Arabic speaking countries and the future vision and prospects for teaching this perennial language, the language of the Holy Quran, in countries around the world.

The symposium also featured interventions on the efforts of ICESCO and the King Salman Academy in supporting the presence of the Arabic language locally, regionally, and internationally, the strategic dimensions of its teaching, and its role in civilizational communication.

The participants also discussed the report on the status of the Arabic language in the world prepared by King Salman Academy, which is considered a basic reference for understanding the status of the Arabic language and strategies for teaching and spreading it.

The symposium concluded with the presentation of recommendations aimed at finding effective solutions to overcome the challenges that hinder the development and growth of the influence of the Arabic language compared to other languages and exploring ways to ensure its spread and teaching on the widest scale.

The symposium was also marked by the speech of the General Secretariat delivered by Dr. Lhoucine Rhazoui, Director of Cultural Affairs, on behalf of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization, in which he noted the commendable efforts made by ISESCO and the King Salman International Academy for the Arabic Language to support Arabic language teaching programs and contribute to formulating language policies in the countries of the Islamic world and implementing programs and strategies for the development of the Arabic language.

The speech of His Excellency the Secretary-General also praised the Academy’s report as an accurate scientific diagnosis of the reality of Arabic language teaching across the world and the recommendations issued by this international scientific symposium, which constitute a roadmap for implementing well-studied, measurable, and valuable work programs that aim to serve this great language and give it the status it deserves.
