On Sunday, Spanish authorities announced the dispatch of rescue teams and aid to Morocco in the aftermath of the destructive earthquake that struck the country last Friday.

According to the news agency "France-Presse," Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares announced on Sunday that Spain would send search and rescue teams and other assistance to Morocco following the earthquake, after receiving an official request for assistance from Rabat.

Albares, in an interview with "Radio Catalunya," stated that this is a sign of Spanish solidarity and the sense of friendship that unites the Spanish people with the Moroccan people.

He added that he had received a phone call from his Moroccan counterpart requesting assistance in the region.

"The assistance will be as much as Morocco needs. Initially, what we will start with is search and rescue teams because it is crucial to try to locate as many people as possible alive for their rescue. When the time for reconstruction comes, Spain will also be present," he further explained.

While Albares did not provide further details, a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior stated that the government is preparing to immediately send 65 members from the Spanish military's emergency unit to Morocco to assist in the search and rescue operation.
