Spain has announced an additional contribution of €20 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), aimed at addressing the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

This announcement was made during a joint press conference featuring Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares alongside UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, as reported by Alhurra TV.

Lazzarini expressed hope that Spain's decision would inspire other nations, which have recently suspended their support for the agency, to resume their assistance.

He noted that the suspension affected 16 countries, representing a shortfall of approximately $450 million (around €410 million).

He also advocated for facilitating land access for aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip, given the limited effectiveness of aerial aid drops.

The United States and Jordan have recently conducted their third aerial aid drop in a week, as part of international efforts to provide relief to the embattled region.
