Spain has voiced its support for French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to establish an international coalition, under a United Nations mandate, aimed at stabilizing Gaza and protecting civilians.

Madrid described the initiative as a potential tool to bring peace to the region.

President Macron announced earlier this week that the proposed UN mission would be tasked with ensuring security in Gaza, safeguarding civilians, and supporting a yet-to-be-determined Palestinian government.

He urged the UN Security Council to take the lead in forming the mission, pledging that France would work alongside its partners to make it a reality.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry stated that the plan could help advance peace and security in Gaza and the wider Middle East, while also supporting the work of UNRWA, the United Nations agency assisting the Palestinian people. Madrid emphasized that such a force should be a step towards achieving a two-state solution.
