South Korea has expressed strong support for Egypt’s role in mediating the Gaza conflict, with its ambassador in Cairo, Kim Yong-hyun, praising Cairo’s tireless efforts to broker a ceasefire and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid.
Speaking during a press salon marking 30 years of diplomatic relations between Egypt and South Korea, the ambassador described the situation in Gaza as a catastrophic tragedy, condemning the starvation and targeting of civilians. He stressed that South Korea supports the two-state solution as the only viable path to ensure lasting stability in the region and called on Israel to uphold its obligations under international law.
Ambassador Kim highlighted Egypt’s status as an anchor of stability in the Middle East, underscoring its central role in de-escalation efforts. He further noted that South Korea, which holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in September, intends to raise the issue of Gaza during council meetings this month, keeping international focus on the humanitarian crisis that has persisted for nearly two years.
His remarks reflect Seoul’s alignment with international calls for a ceasefire, respect for humanitarian law, and renewed commitment to the two-state framework, while also reinforcing its recognition of Egypt’s pivotal role in regional peace and stability.
