Political sources in Israel said, on Monday, that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to suspend the plan for judicial amendments, which sparked unprecedented protests in Israel's history and plunged it into a governance crisis.

This development came after Israel witnessed a tumultuous night of protests, in which the media estimated that the number of participants reached more than 600,000 people.

The political sources said that Netanyahu decided to suspend the judicial amendments, after a meeting he had with the leaders of the parties participating in the ruling coalition.

The Israeli prime minister was supposed to give a speech on the amendments, but that speech was postponed.

Reuters had earlier quoted a source in Israel's ruling Likud party as saying that Netanyahu might back down from the judicial amendments plan.

Demonstrators in West Jerusalem began gathering in the area separating the government headquarters from the Knesset, in preparation for a large demonstration expected later.

While the leaders of the right-wing parties called for demonstrations in support of the judicial amendments, it seems that the option of "street against street" was resorted to.

There are reports about the willingness of elements on the right to take to the streets, which may lead to a breakdown in security in Israel, especially after the statements of police leaders that they are beginning to lose control of the situation in the country.
