The Federal Republic of Somalia has strongly condemned what it described as an unauthorized visit by Israel’s foreign minister to the city of Hargeisa, reaffirming that the city is an integral and inseparable part of Somali sovereign territory. Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the move constitutes a serious violation of the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and represents unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of a UN member state.

In an official statement, the ministry stressed that Hargeisa forms an indivisible part of Somalia’s internationally recognized borders, and that any official presence, engagement, or interaction conducted on Somali territory without the explicit authorization of the federal government is illegal, null, and without legal effect. The statement added that such actions contradict the principles of the United Nations Charter, the Constitutive Act of the African Union, and established norms governing relations between sovereign states, including respect for territorial integrity and non-interference.

Somalia called on Israel to immediately cease all actions that undermine Somalia’s sovereignty and unity, and to comply fully with its obligations under international law. The government also urged the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, along with international partners, to clearly and unequivocally reaffirm their support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and internationally recognized borders.

The Somali government reiterated its commitment to peaceful international engagement, constructive diplomacy, and adherence to international law. At the same time, it affirmed its right to take all appropriate diplomatic and legal measures necessary to protect its national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
