Somalia has requested an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council to reject Israel’s reported recognition of Somaliland, calling the move a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Somalia’s permanent representative to the Arab League condemned the Israeli decision as “irresponsible,” saying it undermines the unity of the Somali state and contravenes international law. He stressed that Somaliland remains an integral part of Somalia and that any attempts to recognize it as an independent entity are “null and void.”
The Somali envoy urged Arab states to take a unified position in defense of Somalia’s sovereignty and to reaffirm support for its territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders.
