Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fiko expressed his anger at Ukraine's suspension of Russian gas, threatening measures against Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia.
In a statement on Thursday in the capital Bratislava, Viko confirmed that he would discuss with his coalition the possibility of reducing support for Ukrainians in Slovakia.
Fiko did not specify the details of this procedure.
Fiko also reiterated his threat that Slovakia had stopped supplying electricity to neighboring Ukraine.
In a video on Facebook, Fico said Slovakia was incurring an annual loss of 500 million euros ($513 million) in gas transit fees due to the suspension.
He also added that his country was demanding compensation. According to Fico, EU countries will have to pay an additional 60 to 70 billion euros annually without Russian gas, in the form of increases in gas and electricity prices.
In addition, the Prime Minister of Slovakia accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of sabotage.
“Russia is almost not affected by this,” Vico said. The only benefit of the United States will be from President Zelensky's decision because of the increase in gas exports to Europe.”
He added that Slovakia would discuss the solutions first in Brussels, then internally within the coalition and the government.
