In a significant diplomatic meeting today, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Tanja Fajon, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Slovenia, and João Cravinho, the Foreign Minister of Portugal. The meeting, also attended by Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, underscored Egypt's pivotal role in the Middle East, especially concerning the recent humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

Ahmed Fahmy, the spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, stated that both the Slovenian and Portuguese representatives expressed their appreciation for the Egyptian-led strategic, political, and humanitarian efforts. These efforts have been crucial since the crisis in Gaza erupted on October 7. Notably, Egypt's mediation resulted in a ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners and detainees. Furthermore, Egypt was commended for its role in evacuating foreign nationals from the conflict zone.

During the meeting, all parties agreed on the necessity to solidify the ceasefire and work towards a permanent cessation of hostilities. They emphasized the immediate need to support humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza, ensuring the sustenance and security of its people, whose livelihoods have been severely impacted by the conflict. The conversation also included a unanimous rejection of the forced displacement of Gaza residents.

President El-Sisi highlighted the supportive stances of Portugal and Slovenia regarding the conflict, noting Slovenia's upcoming non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2024/2025. He stressed the importance of international efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue. This includes recognizing an independent Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Such recognition is vital for ensuring justice and enduring peace and stability in the region for all its peoples.
