President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a phone call Thursday with President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Félix Tshisekedi, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Sisi and Tshisekedi discussed various areas of cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries, most notably the Egyptian development efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On his part, Tshisekedi appreciated the sincere and diligent Egyptian endeavor to reach a balanced solution to the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) that takes into account the interest of all parties.
Tshisekedi affirmed the DRC's keenness to advance cooperation with Egypt in various fields, especially in light of the pivotal role of Egypt at the continental level in maintaining security and stability and achieving development. He also lauded Egypt's stances and its support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo in regional and international forums, as well as development efforts.
Sisi affirmed the Egyptian firm position on the need to reach a binding legal agreement regarding the rules for filling and operating the dam before the next rainy season, in order to preserve the rights of the downstream countries and in order to preserve regional stability, referring to Egypt's support for the Sudanese proposal to form an international quartet under the presidency of the African Union to mediate this issue.
On the level of bilateral relations, Sisi affirmed Egypt's pride in the friendly and cooperative relations that it enjoys in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and its keenness to develop these relations at all levels, including the continuation of the transfer of expertise and the building of Congolese capabilities in all fields.
