Sisi Receives President of Palestine in Sharm El-Sheikh

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his delegation on Tuesday, in Sharm El-Sheikh. The Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service attended the meeting.

Sisi stressed Egypt’s firm stance in support of the question of Palestine, emphasizing the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive solution to this question in accordance with international legitimacy, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

"His Excellency expressed Egypt’s keenness to support the current Palestinian diplomatic efforts, internationally and regionally, to encourage the resumption of peace negotiations," said Rady.

On his part, President Abbas expressed his appreciation and gratitude for Egypt's sincere efforts under the leadership of Sisi.

The Palestinian President also lauded Egypt’s efforts that aim to support the question of Palestine and enable the Palestinian people to overcome the various challenges facing the Palestinian question.

He also praised Egypt's historical role and stable and firm stance to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.

The meeting discussed efforts to reconstruct the Gaza Strip. Moreover, talks on the latest developments on the Palestinian arena, at the local, regional and international levels, were held. These developments, in turn, affect the entire Palestinian question. During the talks, Egypt’s recent intensive regional efforts were also discussed.

A consensus was reached on the need to continue intensive consultation and coordination- whether at the bilateral or trilateral levels-with the participation of Jordan in order to revive the peace process.
