President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, the call addressed the overall bilateral relations between Egypt and France.
Both presidents emphasized the importance of continuing to enhance cooperation across various sectors, particularly in economic and investment domains. They stressed the need to attract more French companies to invest in Egypt's development projects.
Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy added that the discussion included exchanging views on regional developments.
Both leaders underscored the urgency of reaching an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitating the exchange of hostages and detainees, and ensuring the steady flow of humanitarian aid to the region. They also emphasized the need to avoid further escalation and a broader war in the area.
For his part, Macron commended Egypt's intensive efforts since the outbreak of the Gaza crisis, expressing France's full support for Egypt's endeavors to secure a resolution that guarantees security and stability in the region.
The conversation also touched on developments in Syria, with both leaders reaffirming the importance of preserving Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. They stressed the need for an inclusive political process involving all components of the Syrian people.
Regarding Lebanon, both presidents emphasized the importance of fully implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. They called for continued support to strengthen the Lebanese Armed Forces and accelerate the election of a new president to help stabilize the country.
Sisi highlighted the strong connection between the security and stability of the Horn of Africa and Egypt's national security. He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting Somalia in achieving security and stability, both through bilateral cooperation and participation in the African Union peacekeeping mission at Somalia's request.
Additionally, President El-Sisi expressed his interest in the recent agreement between Ethiopia and Somalia brokered by Turkey. He voiced hope that this agreement would contribute to security and stability in the Horn of Africa and align with the principles of international law.
