President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Tuesday that Egypt is keen on the preservation of Syria's unity, territorial integrity, and security, reaffirming the need for stronger regional and international efforts to restore stability in the Arab nation.
This came during a phone call he received from Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest, especially with regard to the project to establish a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) and the Dabaa nuclear power plant project.
The two presidents discussed the latest regional developments, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Sisi reviewed the role played by Egypt, in partnership with Qatar and the United States, since the outbreak of Gaza war in October 2023, to reach a ceasefire agreement, as the main element for restoring calm in the region, in addition to the ongoing Egyptian efforts to ensure the implementation of the agreement and the unobstructed flow of sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid to the enclave, presidential spokesperson Mohamed el-Shennawi said.
Sisi stressed the importance of concerted international efforts to guarantee the implementation of the agreement, leading to the launch of a political track based on the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions as the only path to ensure sustainable security and stability in the region.
For his part, the Russian president voiced constant keenness to communicate with Sisi, appreciating Egypt's pivotal role in reaching the agreement, Shennawi said.
He confirmed that Russia appreciates the Egyptian efforts to maintain the stability of the region and the security and safety of its countries and expressed support for efforts aimed at boosting economic relations with Egypt, according to the spokesman.
The call also addressed developments in Lebanon, endeavors to restore stability in Sudan and Libya, and the war in Ukraine.
