Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen on Monday.
The phone conversation comes within the framework of coordination and the latest developments in the Syrian arena.
Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, stated that Pedersen briefed the minister on the ongoing steps and contacts in an effort to reach the paths of a political agreement on the Syrian crisis.
Also, Pedersen hailed Egypt's vital role in supporting settlement efforts.
"The minister affirmed Egypt's keenness to advance the political process in Syria and end the political stalemate in the Arab country," Hafez added.
In the same vein, Shoukry stressed the need for a comprehensive settlement of the crisis to ensure that Syria extends its sovereignty over its entire national territory, in a manner that preserves its independence.
Moreover, he highlighted the importance of giving priority to the national interest of Syria among the various parties concerned with the Syrian crisis. He also stressed that we should all work together to put an end to the crisis that has extended for more than a decade, and its humanitarian repercussions on the Syrian people.
