Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated in the meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) on Sunday.
The meeting was held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the second day of the 35th session of the AU Assembly.
During its upcoming hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27), on behalf of the African continent, Egypt will voice Africa’s aspirations to confront the impacts related to climate change, Shoukry asserted.
Furthermore, Shoukry noted that the past few years were a clear reminder of how Africa was badly affected by climate change, according to Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the same vein, the minister highlighted the serious weakness of climate finance from which African countries benefit and their limited ability to obtain the modern technology needed in order to enhance their capabilities to adapt to the negative repercussions of climate change.
He also hailed the outcomes of the last session of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, adding that much is left to be done in terms of efforts to address climate change.
Finally, the minister pointed out that Egypt will adopt a comprehensive approach, taking into account the concerns and priorities of the various parties. The state will also support all African countries for their efforts that contribute to the success of its hosting of the conference.
