Egypt’s Senate's inaugural session kicked off shortly. Today’s session will witness the electing of the Speaker and the two deputies.

The historic hall of the Senate was announced to be fully prepared with all needed technologies and equipment including a fully electronic voting system.

The Official Gazette published a decree issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in which he invites the Senate to convene in its first regular session of the legislative term.

The decision indicated that the president’s call to convene is scheduled at 12 noon, on October 18th.

The Senate is awaiting the decisions of President Sisi to appoint 100 senators so that its formation can be completed in such a way that it can convene, as according to the law.

The Senate is composed of 300 members, and two-thirds of its members are elected by direct, secret, general vote, and the President appoints the remaining third, provided that what is not allocated to women less than 10% of the total number of seats.
