"SEE" Highlights Key Archaeological Discoveries Since June 30 Revolution

The last seven years have witnessed many archaeological discoveries that indicate the greatness and beauty of ancient Egyptian civilization and add to Egyptology.

Among those key discoveries was "The Wadi Al-Jarf" oldest papyrus, which proves that the great Pyramids were built by Egyptians, in addition to many other findings that drew the attention of the whole world, and promote Egypt's tourism.

"SEE" Sums up the most important Archaeological discoveries from 2013 to 2019:

2013:

- A wonderful group of papyri was found at the entrance of the grotto numbers 1 and 2. These papyri were buried between the stone blocks that were used to close the grotto after the completion of the work.

-Among those important papyri is one belongs to a senior employee called "Murar", which tells the diaries of the team that was transporting limestone blocks from Tora quarries on the eastern bank of the Nile to the pyramid of Khufu through the Nile and its channels.

-The discovery of the lower parts of two black granite statues, one of them bearing the name of King Thutmose III, during the mission's work in the mortuary temple of the king on the western mainland in Luxor, in addition to a group of rings bearing the name of the two kings; Akhenaten and Ramses.

- The Italian-Egyptian mission operating in the funerary temple of King Amenhotep III on the western mainland in Luxor succeeded to discover a cemetery that includes a number of rock tombs dating back to the beginning of the 3rd  transition period.

- The Belgian-Egyptian mission succeeded in uncovering the remains of a mud-brick pyramid, during its work in the Sheikh Abd al-Qurnah area in Luxor.

2014:

-A Czech mission working in the area of Abu Seer in Giza discovered a skeleton of a senior statesman called Nefer who lived under the rule of the King Nefer-ir-ka-Re of the 5th  dynasty from ancient Egypt’s Pharaonic era.

-The discovery of a huge cemetery that contains the remains of nearly 50 mummies, including those belonging to members of the royal family, most likely belonging to the two kings, Tuthmose IV and Amenhotep III from the era of the 18th Dynasty.

-Unearthing the tomb of one of the leading statesmen of the eighteenth dynasty called "Ma'i", during the excavation works in Sheikh Abdel Qurna, west of Luxor.

2015:

-The funerary set of the god Osiris was unearthed in Cemetery number 327 in Qurna.

-Discovering an ancient cemetery dating back to the Greco-Roman era.

- The discovery of a new cemetery in the Qurna area of Luxor for a person named "Amenhotep" who was occupying the job of the ancient god Amun's gate guard.

- The discovery of the Egyptian army headquarters during the modern state era in Northern Sinai.

-Four new graves were discovered at the site of Tel al-Farkhah, Dakahlia Governorate, during the excavations work conducted by a Polish mission.

2016:

-Archaeologists have discovered an ancient city in Egypt that dates back to seven thousand years. It includes houses, tools, ceramics, and huge tombs, and located on the Nile, near the temple of Seti I in Abydos.

- A group of rock inscriptions dating back to prehistoric times was discovered in the tombs of the nobles in Aswan.

- A mummy of a woman named "Sachini" dating back to the age of the 12th  Dynasty was unearthed.

2017:

- The remains of a pyramid belong to the 3rd Dynasty were discovered, as well as the portions of a royal obelisk from the 6th Dynasty were found in Saqqara, Giza.

- Egyptian archaeologists have uncovered the tomb of a goldsmith dedicated to the god Amun and the mummies of a woman and her two children.

- The discovery of the first funeral park, near the city of Luxor, which dates back 4000 years ago.

2018:

-8 Pharaonic tombs were found in Minya Governorate, including 40 coffins for priests, more than 1000 statues of guards and servants.

-An ancient cemetery located 4 kilometers from the "Tuna al-Jabal" area was discovered.

- A tomb of one of the senior officials in the era of Neferkare King was discovered in Saqqara.

2019:

- The discovery of two ancient tombs in Be'r al-Shaghala area of Dakhla Oasis

- Uncovering a group of various archaeological items dating back to the Greek and Roman times

- 6 tombs from the era of the Old Kingdom were discovered in Qubbet el-Hawa in Aswan Governorate

- The discovery of a group of tombs dating back to the Hyksos period and 20 burials dating back to the Naqada III period in Kom al-Khalijan area.

- A unique cemetery of a person called "Khoi" was unearthed in the Saqqara archaeological site.

- A team of Egyptian archaeologists discovered a “distinctive group of 30 colored wooden coffins for men, women, and children” in a cache at Al-Asasif cemetery on Luxor's west bank.

- The discovery of an integrated industrial city in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor by prominent Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass's mission.
