The Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, announced a new initiative, "Apply your idea," for which 30 million pounds have been allocated.
The minister has entrusted the scientists of research centers, Egyptian universities, and the Petrochemical Alliance.
One of the objectives of the initiative is to provide sterile and disinfectant materials in accordance with the World Health Organization (who) guidelines and to make them available at the cost rate.
In addition, the initiative opened the door for progress to give an emergency exception to receive innovative technological ideas and solutions to confront the Coronavirus. It started from March 24 and will be concluded on 28, 2020, at the Academy of Scientific Research.
The minister called upon Egyptian researchers and innovators to present innovative research suggestions within his initiative "apply your idea" to find alternative solutions and confront the global epidemic, new Coronavirus.
The progress will be made electronically via the official website of the Academy www.asrt.sci.eg, and the deadline for progress is on 28 March 2020.
Dr. said. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy, said that the plan was approved in the last Academy Council No. 176 of 2020. The Academy will provide technical, material and logistical support, with the aim of supporting and activating Egyptian innovations to reach the stage of quantitative production.
The grant targets several areas, including the applications of widespread rapid manufacturing tools, 3D printers and CNC machines to design masks that can be reused only after changing the filter, as well as designing a simple low-cost console or respirator that is easy to use and easy to build in an emergency time frame.
The proposals will be technically evaluated; researchers or innovators - whose projects are accepted - would be invited to specialized scientific committees, including industrialists, investment, university professors, academic research and experts, through video conference. The winners will be notified and the contract will start in the first week of April 2020.
