South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul discussed with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg ways to enhance bilateral and military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.

“South Korean government is working with friendly countries to establish a new monitoring mechanism against North Korea after the UN Security Council failed to extend mandate of expert panel overseeing sanctions,” Cho said during a meeting in Brussels, according to “Yonhap” news agency.

Cho also called for NATO cooperation, noting the South Korean government's ongoing diplomatic efforts to convene a UN General Assembly meeting to condemn Russia for vetoing the extension.

For his part, Stoltenberg stressed the need for coordinated efforts by the international community against military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, expressing his continued support for South Korea's efforts to bring sustainable peace to the Korean Peninsula.
