On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he has not yet made a final decision regarding his intention to run for re-election in 2024 or not.
"I have not yet made that decision for myself, whether I will run or will not run in 2024. Well, regarding the country's stable development, it's worth a great deal. Legally, there is the permission from the people. I will see if I do so or not," Putin said at an annual press conference.
earlier this year, Putin made constitutional reforms that, among other things, allow him to run for two more six-year terms as president, potentially extending his rule until 2036.
During the conference, Putin also called on the Russian people to get the coronavirus vaccine “Sputnik V, announcing that he would receive it as soon as he was able to.
“Our health care professionals say the vaccines ... are meant for people of certain ages ... people like me are not yet allowed to take vaccines. I am a law-abiding citizen and I always listen to what our health care professionals say, therefore I haven’t been inoculated yet but I will surely do that as soon as it is permitted.”
In November, second interim analysis of clinical trial data showed today, a 91.4% efficacy for the Sputnik V vaccine on day 28 after the first dose; vaccine efficacy is over 95%, 42 days after the first dose.
Calculation was based on the analysis of data on volunteers who received both the first and second doses of the Sputnik V vaccine or placebo at the second control point (39 confirmed cases as of November 23, 2020) in accordance with the clinical trial protocol.
