The inaugural meeting of the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Society took place at the Russian House in Cairo, with Dr. Ibrahim Kamel, Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors, presiding over the proceedings.
The meeting was attended by Murad Gatin, the Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, Sherif Gad, the Secretary-General of the Friendship Society, and Dr. Fathi Tugan, a member of the Society’s Board of Directors.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ideas and initiatives to revitalize the activities of the Friendship Association after making adjustments to its situation.
Gad, who moderated the meeting, expressed gratitude for the significant turnout, highlighting the widespread interest in strengthening and enhancing relations with Russian friends.
He also outlined three key approaches to guide the association's activities in the future: cooperation with the Russian House and Egyptian institutions, collaboration with the Russian community and its members who are proficient in both languages and cultures, and engaging with relevant Russian institutions.
In turn, Dr. Kamel emphasized the significance of the meeting, where members' suggestions would be presented to develop a program of activities for the coming period. He affirmed the Board's commitment to supporting all proposals and initiatives, and to pursuing cooperation with Russian institutions, particularly the Russian-Egyptian Friendship Society, led by Minister Ramadan Abdel-Tayebov.
Moreover, Dr. Kamel commended the quality of the initiatives discussed, including plans for a joint cultural forum in Hurghada, highlighting conferences and events in both countries, creating a Russian cinema club and festival, organizing the BRICS Forum for Fine Arts, arranging trips to Russia, introducing the Egyptian civilization to the Russian community, conducting an annual conference for businessmen, establishing a magazine, organizing visits to Russian universities in Egypt, and promoting cooperation between Egyptian and Russian universities.
He also expressed gratitude for the valuable initiatives presented, and thanked artist Dr. Raafat Abdel Salam for painting a portrait of President Putin.
He further reiterated the Board's commitment to supporting these initiatives in the interest of strengthening Egyptian-Russian relations.
