Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded to a question from the Cairo News Channel correspondent, "What steps are Russia and Egypt seeking to take to resolve the Palestinian issue?"
Lavrov said, in a press conference with Foreign Minister Ambassador Badr Abdel Aati, broadcast by Cairo News Channel: "We appreciate the Egyptian efforts aimed at stopping the fire in Gaza and stopping the fighting."
He added: "Egypt, along with other countries, is working to formulate the wills for Hamas and Israel, and we welcome all steps that would stop the bloodshed as soon as possible."
He continued: "In the Security Council, we work with our Egyptian friends in the Security Council, but the problem is that the Americans do not want to pass resolutions that mean what each of us wants, which is a ceasefire, and the Americans used the veto right for draft resolutions that we and our friends were promoting."
