Russia is planning to build a new aircraft carrier for its navy, as announced by Oleg Savchenko, the director of the Russian government’s Krylov State Research Center.

During a recent interview, Savchenko revealed that two years ago, experts at the center completed the theoretical designs for a new Russian aircraft carrier, known as "MAK," and that the center continues to monitor developments related to the construction of aircraft carriers for the Russian fleet.

In January, Nikolai Yevmenov, who was then the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, confirmed that the fleet had been studying the feasibility of a project to create a new aircraft carrier.

This carrier would enhance the fleet’s ability to perform a variety of missions and improve its operational capacity.

Currently, Russia operates only one aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, which is undergoing extensive repairs and modernization at the Russian Shipyard No. 35.

These upgrades were expected to be completed by the middle of this year, although delays have occurred.

The Krylov State Research Center first proposed the concept for a new Russian aircraft carrier under the Project 23000, code-named "Storm." The proposed vessel will be an imposing 330 meters in length and have a displacement of 100,000 tons.

Designed to operate at a speed of 30 knots, the aircraft carrier will be capable of carrying between 80 and 90 aircraft. It will also be equipped with nuclear reactors, similar to those used in Russia’s nuclear icebreakers, specifically the RITM-200 reactors.
