A Russian court fined TikTok on Friday with $3 million rubles ($28,929.60) after the platform was convicted of not complying with Russian legal restrictions on the publication of certain types of information, the Moscow court press service said.
The press service did not specify the nature of the complaint against Tik Tok.
In April, the US Senate passed a law obliging the Chinese parent company of TikTok, Byte Dance, to abandon the application, citing national security concerns. In an effort to overturn this law, Tik Tok owners turned to the U.S. Supreme Court, which agreed to consider the case.
However, if the court does not rule in favor of Bytedance and the process of abandoning the application is not carried out, TikTok could face a de facto ban in the United States by January 19, just one day before Trump takes office.
