Olympic Champion, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on International Affairs, State Duma of the Russian Federation, has ruled out the participation of Russian athletes in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Zhurova stated, "I have doubts... it is unlikely that the athletes (Russians) will go anywhere at all." According to her opinion, the International Olympic Committee is trying to divide the Russian community.
On March 1, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin, on behalf of the country's representatives interested in competing in the 2024 Summer Games, paused. He said that potential participants in the Olympic tournament are the nation's treasure.
In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris as neutral individual athletes.
At the same time, athletes who support the Russian military operation in Ukraine, as well as those with connections to the armed forces or security agencies in Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. Additionally, representatives of team sports will be absent from the championship.
