The Russian Foreign Ministry considered that the new US administration is sending signals confirming its readiness to return to the agreement on Iran's nuclear program.
"Washington is sending certain signals indicating its initial readiness to return to the nuclear deal, but all that we see now is an exchange of criticism between the United States and Iran about the party that should take the first step," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a press conference today.
She indicated that Moscow is ready to cooperate closely with the parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA) regarding the agreement on Iran's nuclear program to "save" the deal, including with the new administration in the United States.
But Zakharova indicated that no progress has been made so far regarding the implementation process of the nuclear deal to the frameworks agreed in principle.
The administration of former US President Donald Trump, since he took office in 2017, especially his withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018, has followed a campaign of "maximum pressure" on Iran, which includes imposing harsh economic sanctions on the country, under the pretext that it is "the largest international supporter of terrorism in the Middle East." and destabilize the region."
These measures were criticized by the rest of the parties to the agreement, Russia, China, Britain, France, and Germany, while Iran took several steps to reduce its obligations within the deal.
The inauguration of Democrat Joe Biden as the president of the United States, a participant in the process of reaching the nuclear deal in 2015 during his tenure as vice president in the Barack Obama administration, increased expectations of a return to a commitment to the deal by the parties.
Iran insists on lifting the sanctions to return to the nuclear deal which stipulates ending the embargo on the Iranian economy for monetary and economic stimulates.
