The Royal Carriage Museum in Cairo's Bulaq neighborhood will be inaugurated in December after the finish of its renovation, Head of the Projects Sector at the Ministry of Antiquities Waad Abu El-Ella said on Tuesday.
"More than 80% of the construction works finished," Abu El Ella noted in a statement.
The museum's renovation project started in 2001 and stopped several times until it was resumed in 2017. The project included rehabilitation of the museum's building and preparing its halls equipped by fire and burglar alarm systems.
"A restoration laboratory with the latest equipment had been set up at the museum," he stated, adding that all the museum's area had been benefited from to offer required services to the visitors.
Meanwhile, Nivene Nezzar, the antiquities minister assistant for museums affairs, said that scenario of the museum display had been renewed through five display halls which show the royal carriages and their accessories.
The museum, established by Khepe Ismail, displays the royal carriages of the family of Mohamed Ali.
It includes wonderful chariots, used on many different occasions including wedding ceremonies and official processions.
The Museum of Royal Carriages is located on 26th of July Street just beside the historical mosque of Abu El Ellah, which was constructed in the middle of the 16th century. The museum was established during the reign of Khepe Ismail in the last quarter of the 20th century. He was the first one to think of founding a special building to show off the royal carriages and horses.
