Residents of the southern Lebanese town of Beit Lif, in the Bint Jbeil district, have issued an urgent appeal to the Lebanese authorities, calling for immediate protection following renewed Israeli accusations of military activity inside the village.

In a statement, the residents urged the Lebanese Army Command as well as the country’s top officials — the President, Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker — to deploy military units inside the town to safeguard unarmed civilians. Their appeal comes after the Israeli army claimed that Hezbollah has rebuilt military infrastructure in Beit Lif and established weapons depots and operational bases within residential areas.

“The people of Beit Lif — women, men, children and elders — stand firmly on their land. We returned to our homes and our livelihoods, and we will not allow any false pretext to push us out,” the residents said. They stressed that they are the rightful owners of the land, adding: “Here we were born, here we live, and here we will remain.”

The town’s mayor, Ezzat Hammoud, said local authorities have already begun coordinating with the Lebanese Army to increase patrols and inspect the locations cited by Israel. He noted that the aim is to reassure residents and prevent any escalation.

Lebanese security sources confirmed that army units have stepped up their presence in the area and are conducting field checks around the town.

The appeal follows months of heightened tensions along Lebanon’s southern border. In June, an Israeli drone strike hit Beit Lif, killing one person and injuring three others. The wider border region has witnessed intermittent flare-ups, often triggered by Israeli claims of Hezbollah activity in populated areas.

Residents say they fear becoming targets in any future confrontation and are urging the state to take swift action to protect them.
