Italian coach Roberto Mancini is reportedly close to returning to management, with Manchester United emerging as a potential next destination.

He is said to be among the candidates considered to replace current manager Ruben Amorim.

Mancini’s most recent role was with the Saudi national team, from which he was dismissed due to inconsistent results.

According to The Sun, Mancini has informed close associates that he is on the shortlist to succeed Amorim amid United’s disappointing performances this season.

The report also noted that Mancini met earlier with club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France, fueling speculation about a possible appointment.

However, the report highlights that Mancini’s potential move could be complicated by his past ties to Manchester City, where he led the club to its first Premier League title in 2011, ending a 34-year wait.

Manchester United have struggled under Amorim this season, currently sitting tenth in the Premier League with just 10 points.

Pressure is mounting ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash with Liverpool in the eighth round of the season, a match that could significantly impact the manager’s future.
