Many European reports stated Thursday that Liverpool FC had joined the race to sign Spanish Real Madrid's defender Sergio Ramos.

It seems that the future of the Real Madrid captain is far from clear at the moment, as the 34-year-old's contract with the Royal club expires at the end of the current season, and he has not yet reached an agreement with the Meringues' management regarding the renewal of the contract.

Reports from Spain said that Ramos rejected Real Madrid's offer to renew on a year by year basis, or for two years with a salary reduction, which sparked a lot of speculation about the Spanish Captain's desired destination.

Ramos was linked during the last period with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Juventus, Italy, before the famous Spanish "Chiringuito" claimed that Liverpool have joined the race.

On its part, The Mirror said that Liverpool, like other clubs, is seeking to reinforce its ranks during the current winter transfer period, especially since the Reds' back line is in need of repair after suffering from injuries that hit many players such as Virgil Van Dijk.

The English website explained at the same time that Liverpool does not want to spend much money in the current Mercato, because they are planning something interesting next summer.

Ramos joined Real Madrid during the summer transfer window for the 2005/06 season from Sevilla, and played 666 official matches wearing the Royal club jersey in various tournaments.
