Report: Reconstruction of Libya Kicks off from Cairo

In Cairo, it was announced that an international conference for building and construction in Libya will be held from May 16-20 in the Libyan city of Benghazi, with the participation of Egyptian companies wishing to rebuild Libya, and in the presence of representatives of the business community from both countries.

During an introductory forum in Cairo, the upcoming conference in Benghazi was announce upon directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi who called for Egypt’s participation in the reconstruction of Libya in many fields.

Representatives from the official sector and the Egyptian and Libyan business community participated in the preparatory meeting, including Ibrahim Al-Jarary, President of the Egyptian-Libyan Economic Chamber and President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Tobruk and Hassan Suleiman Al-Dibani, Vice-President of the Egyptian-Libyan Joint Economic Chamber and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Darna.

On the Egyptian side, representatives of Egyptian bodies, regional federations, and chambers of industry and commerce took part in the meeting including, Ahmed Shoman, Executive Director of the Cairo International Forum for Urban Partners, and Ashraf Abdel Rahim, Executive Director of the International Building and Construction Exhibition.

The International Conference on Building and Construction of Libya is scheduled to include elite representatives of the Libyan business community and the official sector with a group of the Egyptian business community, chambers of commerce and industry, engineering, administrative and financial consulting offices and a strong representation of the contracting sector, real estate development and producers of building materials.

Ashraf Abdel Rahim, Executive Director of the International Building and Construction Exhibition, stressed in a statement the importance of Egyptian-Libyan cooperation, especially that the geographical location, the persity of human resources, raw materials, and the accumulated experiences of the Egyptian and Libyan sides prove that benefits can be exchanged and enhance our steps towards the future.

Abdel Rahim added that the introductory forum witnessed the answer to many questions about the plans for the reconstruction, and revealed the type and size of needs, whether urgent or planned in the short or long term, according to a report by Sky News Arabia.

Moreover, the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers pointed out that the Syndicate is ready to provide the best engineering expertise and cooperate with the other side, enhance communication with the Syndicate of Engineers in Tripoli, and organize training courses for the engineers of the sister country.

It's noteworthy that Sisi discussed last February  with Mohamed Al Menfi, President of the Libyan Presidential Council, in the Belgian capital, Brussels, the recent developments of the file.

“Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support for the current political path to settling the Libyan crisis in all bilateral, regional and international forums,” said Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The president also stressed Cairo’s keenness to strengthen close coordination with the Tripoli side during the current period in order to activate the free will of the brotherly people.

On his part; Menfi expressed his appreciation for the sincere Egyptian support for his country, within the framework of the extended and fraternal relations linking the two countries and peoples.

He also hailed the tireless Egyptian efforts led by Sisi in supporting Tripoli, especially by contributing to the restoration of national institutions and the unification of the national army of Libya, as well as the vital Egyptian supportive role at the international level for the current political track.
