Several achievements of the Egyptian state, within the national project for the development of the Egyptian countryside, "A Decent Life", which is the largest development initiative in the world.
The initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, to develop the lives of millions in villages and towns, focused on the poorest 375 villages during its preliminary phase in 2019, and succeeded, within two years, in reducing poverty rates among the residents of the preparatory villages by 11 percent on average.
The initiative aimed to complete the development of all 4,600 Egyptian rural villages, comprising 58 million people, by 2025 instead of 2030.
The number of projects for the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative to develop 1,477 villages has reached about 30,000. More than 90% of the targeted projects have been completed in 8 governorates, more than 70% of the targeted projects are in 7 governorates, and less than 70% in 5 Provinces.
The initiative has implemented about 61 service complexes, and 115 complexes are being implemented to serve citizens, so that each complex includes a headquarters for the local village unit, the local council, the supply and real estate office, the civil registry, a post office, a social solidarity unit, and a small technology center that acts as an office for these entities.
In the field of electricity, the initiative succeeded in implementing projects at an estimated cost of LE 24.235 billion, including (distributor buildings - kiosk bases - transformers - medium and low voltage poles), while maintenance and upgrading the efficiency of transformer kiosks and medium and low voltage poles is being carried out.
In infrastructure projects, the existing bridges were replaced, renewed, upgraded, and expanded, in addition to the construction of new bridges on the waterway in villages and cities.
With regard to health projects, the initiative succeeded in establishing, developing and raising the efficiency of health units, medical centers and ambulance points located inside the villages, and equipped and operated them with the appropriate medical cadres for the purpose of upgrading the medical system in the villages.
The Decent Life initiative is working to establish 495 health units and a medical center, 4 central hospitals in the centers (Maghagha and Abu Qurqas, Minya Governorate - Motobas, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate - Shebin El-Qanater, Qalyubia Governorate), and 186 ambulance points in several villages.
Work is also underway to implement 235 projects (86 health units, light upgrading - 142 health units, new construction - 7 health units, comprehensive development), and 39 projects to raise light efficiency, as well as 120 ambulance points of them (85 new construction ambulance points - 35). Ambulance point development) 14 ambulance points have also been implemented.
Within the framework of the state’s interest in youth, the initiative is working to implement and establish 530 youth center projects, including: 117 new construction – 97 replacement and renewal – 316 development and upgrading of efficiency. 461 youth center projects are in progress, including: “95 establishment – 85 replacement and renewal – 281 development.” Raising the efficiency - implementing the works of 18 youth centers - preparations are underway to implement 51 youth centers.
With regard to agricultural projects, the initiative is working to implement 160 agricultural complexes, 13 of which have been implemented, and preparations are under way to implement 2 agricultural complexes in the Shebin al-Qanater center, and provide the required lands for 3 other complexes.
The Decent Life initiative also did not overlook the social housing projects, where 160 residential buildings are being implemented. Work is underway in 216 houses in the village of Al-Zarabi, Abu Tig Center, Assiut Governorate, and the village of West Aswan, Aswan Center.
The Decent Life initiative succeeded in introducing integrated sanitation projects to 268 villages, and implementation is underway in 706 villages out of a total of 974 villages.
In addition, 3000 nurseries, 82 veterinary units, 26 youth centers and 9 social units were implemented, as well as the construction and upgrading of 132,000 housing units, as well as the installation of 706 domestic sewage tanks, 130 treatment plants, 1,680 domestic sewage connections, and 1,675 domestic water connections. As well as installing 9,500 lighting poles and paving 188 km.
