Rashwan Elected as New Press Syndicate Head

CAIRO, Mar.15 (SEE)- Diaa Rashwan was elected on Friday as new Chairman of the Syndicate of Journalists.

The supervising committee said in a statement that Rashwan gained 2,810 votes in today's voting while rival Refaat Rashad obtained only 1,585.

"Up to 4,588 votes were cast in the ballots," the committee said, adding that as much as 235 votes were considered spoiled.

Rashwan is the Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS). He graduated from Cairo University with a Bachelor's degree in political science in 1981 and also received a Master's degree in the same domain from the Sorbonne University 4 years later.
