Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Moscow will expand the use of reliable currencies in its trade, and that oil-producing countries in the Middle East have expressed interest to deal in the yuan.
"Our partners are pleased to agree with us to conduct financial transactions in yuan," Putin told Russia-24. "The oil-producing countries in the Middle East have announced that they will expand transactions in currencies that can be trusted."
He added, "The dollar has certain advantages today, and there are certain restrictions on the currencies we use and not only on the yuan, but on other currencies as well. But every country is interested in strengthening its own local currency, and all countries will strive to achieve this."
